EICRs, board changes and call-outs, invoiced from the van
TradeLinkers runs an electrician's jobs from enquiry to paid invoice. Attach the EIC, minor works certificate or EICR as a PDF so the customer can open it in their portal, send an estimate they accept online, then turn it into a numbered invoice with your bank details on. Landlord jobs keep tenant and access notes on the property.

Typical electrician jobs, all in one list
Any job works. These are the ones an electrician books in most weeks.
What changes when an electrician runs the paperwork on TradeLinkers
Certificates on the job, not in the glovebox
Attach the EIC, minor works certificate or EICR as a PDF from your phone. The customer gets an email and can download it from their portal whenever a buyer, insurer or letting agent asks for it.
Landlord and agent work
Save each rental as a property under the landlord or agent, with the tenant's name and number and the access notes. When you're back for the next EICR, the last report and the job history are already there.
Estimates the customer accepts online
Price a rewire or board change as an estimate, set a deposit percentage and email it. The customer taps Accept and types their name, you get an email, and one tap turns it into the invoice with the deposit carried over.
Rewires over several days
Book a rewire across separate days, each with its own start time, around first fix, plastering and second fix. If the plasterer runs late, the reschedule sheet moves your days and can email the customer the new dates.
Your mate or apprentice on their own login
Invite your second electrician or apprentice by email and assign them jobs. They work from their own My jobs list and the team calendar, and mark the job done from site so you can invoice it.
Call-outs from your booking link
A customer with a tripping RCD fills in your booking link and marks it Emergency. It lands as a New Enquiry job with their address, and your phone gets a push notification.
What an electrician's invoice looks like
Parts, labour, bonding and testing on separate lines, so the customer can see what the certificate work cost. The EIC itself goes on the job as a PDF for the customer to download, not on the invoice.
Example figures to show the layout, not a price guide. Your own prices, business details, bank details and VAT setting go on the real thing.
| Description | Qty | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Consumer unit, 10-way with RCBOs and surge protection | 1 | £210.00 |
| Labour: remove old fuse board, fit and connect new unit | 1 | £340.00 |
| Main protective bonding to gas and water upgraded | 1 | £85.00 |
| Inspection, testing and Electrical Installation Certificate | 1 | £95.00 |
Straight answers
Do I need to give a certificate for every electrical job?
For installation work, yes. Approved Document P says electrical installation work in a home, notifiable or not, should be inspected, tested and certificated to BS 7671. That means an Electrical Installation Certificate for a new circuit or consumer unit, and a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for an addition or alteration that doesn't include a new circuit.
Attach the PDF to the job in TradeLinkers and the customer gets an email and a copy in their portal, so there's one to hand when they sell or remortgage.
Which electrical jobs are notifiable under Part P?
In England, three kinds: a new circuit, a replacement consumer unit, and any addition or alteration to existing circuits in a special location, meaning the space around a bath or shower, or a room with a swimming pool or sauna. Additions elsewhere, replacements, repairs and maintenance aren't notifiable.
As a member of a competent person scheme you self-certify, and the occupier must get a Building Regulations compliance certificate within 30 days of the work finishing. Wales has its own Approved Document P, and Scotland and Northern Ireland have separate building rules.
How often does a rented home need an EICR?
In England, private landlords must have the electrics inspected and tested at least every five years, or sooner if the last report says so. Existing tenants get a copy within 28 days of the inspection, and new tenants before they move in. Wales and Scotland also set a five-year limit, under their own rules on giving tenants the report.
Attach each report to the property in TradeLinkers and the landlord or agent can download it from their portal. There's no automatic reminder, so the next inspection is booked as a new job.
How do I price a rewire when I can't see inside the walls?
Send an estimate rather than a fixed quote, and write down what it assumes: floor access, the number of points per room, plastering by others. If you find something that changes the price, tell the customer before you carry on.
In TradeLinkers, book the look-round as a Quote Visit, send the estimate with a valid-until date, and turn it into the invoice when the job's done. Our guide to quotes and estimates covers the wording.
Can TradeLinkers produce my electrical certificates?
No. TradeLinkers doesn't create EICs, minor works certificates or EICRs. Keep using the certificate software or forms your scheme accepts, save the finished certificate as a PDF, and attach it to the job from your phone's files.
The customer gets an email to say a document has been added and can download it from their portal whenever they need it. The certificate stays with the job, next to the estimate and invoice it belongs to.
What TradeLinkers does not do yet
- No card payments built in. Add your own pay link and it prints as a SCAN TO PAY QR code on the invoice.
- No repeat jobs, so the next periodic inspection is booked as a new job.
- No price list. Accessories and labour are typed as lines, or carried over from the estimate.

Quote or estimate: what's the difference?
A quote is a fixed price once accepted, an estimate is your best guess. What to put on each, how long a quote stays valid, and how to handle extra work.
What must be on an invoice in the UK?
What a UK invoice must show for sole traders and limited companies, full and simplified VAT invoices, invoice numbering, dates, payment terms and bank details.
