Start here: what this board is for and how it works

Welcome. This is a board for people who work in the UK trades — on the tools, running a van, or running a small firm.

What it's for. Asking what a job should be priced at. Checking a reg before you commit to something. Finding out whether a tool is worth the money before you buy it. Working out how other people get an invoice paid without chasing it four times.

Who's here. Sparks, plumbers, heating engineers, chippies, builders, roofers, plasterers, tilers, groundworkers — anyone doing the work. You do not need to use the TradeLinkers app to post here and you never will.

A note on the Team badge. Posts marked Team are from us, the people who build the app. We have started a lot of the threads on this board to get things moving. We are not tradespeople and we are not pretending to be — the answers are the valuable part, and those come from you.

Three things that make a thread useful:

• Say where you are. Prices and inspectors are not the same in Aberdeen and Aberystwyth.
• Say when. "Last month" is worth more than "usually".
• If you are guessing, say you are guessing.
